The most common form of urinary tract infection is cystitis, which affects the bladder.  The symptoms are a burning sensation during urination with difficulty to urinate, often accompanied by pressure or pain in the lower abdomen or back and a state of general fatigue.  Urine is frequently cloudy and malodorous. 

Women are more susceptible to urinary infections than men, especially in periods of hormonal disruption.  Because of a weaker immune system, people who suffer from diabetes and the elderly are also at risk.  In men, urinary tract infections are less common but potentially more serious because they are often linked to prostate problems.



  • Drink lots of water
  • Drink unsweetened and concentrated cranberry juice or capsules of concentrated cranberry extracts.  Cranberry also contains molecules that prevent bacteria from adhering to the bladder walls and proliferate.  The use of cranberries is safe for pregnant women.
  • Make sure to have a regular intestinal elimination.  Add probiotics to your menu.
  • Take a Vitamin C supplement every day.

AS SOON AS THE FIRST SYMPTOMS APPEAR, here are the rules to follow and the precautions to take:

  • DRINK A LOT to avoid urine stagnation: water, pure unsweetened cranberry juice and herbal teas or mother tinctures that are antiseptic and diuretic.  The recommended plant is uva ursi and you should ideally choose a mix of plants that contains this plant.
  • D-Mannose: 90% of urinary tract infections are caused by the E.Coli bacteria, which is usually found in the intestine.  When this bacteria multiplies itself in the urinary tract, infection symptoms develop.  D-Mannose, the active ingredient in cranberries, acts by attracting bacteria to facilitate their elimination and prevent them from proliferating.  The therapeutic activity of D-Mannose is 10 to 50 times stronger than the cranberry, non-toxic, safe, and has no side effects.   It can be used in the long term to prevent a risk of relapse.
  • Increase dosage of Vitamin C and probiotics.
  • To relieve pain, a clay poultice on the lower abdomen offers a significant relief – it is preferable not to apply any clay poultice during menstruation.
  • It is important to make sure your intestines function daily.

MENOPAUSE AND URINARY INFECTIONS                                                                 
When estrogen levels decrease and menopause sets in, numerous women complain of cystitis. 

The decrease of estrogen levels lead to various slimming levels of the vaginal walls, the bladder walls and the urethra.  This dryness makes certain women more vulnerable to bacterial infections, especially in the presence of cracks.  One should not confuse stress incontinence with cystitis.  Stress incontinence affects many women during menopause and is characterized by weak urine leaks when they laugh, cough, sneeze, jump or run.  Kegel exercises are then recommended, because they help contribute to the fortification of pelvic and vaginal muscles.
