• 1 organic orange with the peel
  • ½ cups (125 ml) of water
  • 1 organic egg
  • ½ to ¾ (125 ml to 190 ml) of cane sugar Sucanat, coco sugar or turbinado sugar
  • 4 tbsp (60 ml) of vegetable oil
  • 1 ¾ cup (440 ml) of organic flour sifted
  • 1 ½ tsp (7 ml) of baking powder alum free
  • ½ tsp (2 ml) of baking soda alum free
  • ½ tsp (2 ml) of sea salt
  • ¾ cup (190 ml) of pitted chopped dates
  • ½ cup (125 ml) of Walnuts nuts or minced almonds
  • + White almonds to decorate


Carefully clean the orange and cut into pieces. Remove seeds. Put the orange in a blender with the water.

Mix in oil, egg and sugar in a bowl.

Sift the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together. Put the mix into the bowl with the egg, alternating little by little with the orange puree.

Add the dates and nuts. Mix well. Spread batter in a greased and floured cake or bread baking pan. Cover with white almonds to decorate.

Cook in oven at 350 degree F (180 Celsius) for 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the pan used it will determine the thickness of the cake. Check baking with a toothpick.
